This review is from: Mini ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 Code Reader with obd2 software for iOS iPhone Android PC. Professioanl Check engine Code Reader, Instant scan and Read (White) (Electronics)
This is one of those gadgets that you thought you would never need until one day you go to a garage and they try and tell you that you need all of this work done to your car because your car is all electronic and it will only cost about a thousand pounds….I love the way they say ONLY about a thousand pounds…who has a spare thousand or two lying around for their car repairs?

How can you dispute what they are saying, it is really hard to.

Okay so what about if you could find out if there is anything wrong within the electronics of your vehicle before you went to the garage and then let the garage know that you suspect the fault to be in the area you discovered.

That is exactly the reason that I bought this wee gadget, with being new to the area and not knowing what was a reputable garage and generally I do not trust garages anyway as they are all out to make money and some do this more than others.

The scanner is about the size of a scart plug (if you remember those) and it just plugs into the interface in your car and reads the electronics.

It works through Bluetooth, so its ideal to link up with your phone, and to that end, the manufacturer even suggests some of the different software suites that you can buy or get for free for your phone regardless if you have an android device or iOS device, this will work with either as long as you have the software to capture and read the codes etc.

When it is paired with your device and as long as you have the software installed, it will read everything that is going on within your engine and let you know what it working and what is not.

It is not designed to write to your car electronics, only read what is going on so please remember that – It is only a scanner.

Knowing that something was not quite right with my car but being unable to put my finger on it (I have no clue about cars due to their electronic wizardry under the bonnet these days), I thought I would buy and use this to figure out what was wrong before I potentially got fleeced at the garage for extra work or more like fault finding costs.

The scanner came back and told me that where was something wrong with my Lambda sensor (oxygen sensor to you and me).

So armed with this I went to my garage and when handing over my keys I let them know that I scanned my car and I was sure it was the Lambda sensor that was at fault. Two hours later I got a phone call to say that my car was fixed and they only had to replace the Lambda sensor(surprise surprise) and it only cost me £70.

If I didn’t tell them I dreed to think what it might have cost because even just plugging my car into their machine would have cost me £50.

So I can see this scanner saving me a fortune in the long run.

Although I did receive this at a discount to try out, this would not have stopped me from buying it at its regular price. Being honest and genuine in my reviews is something that I am because I would not want anyone to waste their money on something that did not work just like I wouldn’t want to either.

I am now using the scanner to improve my mpg by analysing my driving style using this scanner and software on my phone.

If you have any questions, please just ask, otherwise thanks for reading my review and I hope you found it helpful.
